Friday December 11, 1:30-2:30 pm: Grade 2 Christmas Concert (please dress in black/dark clothes Friday December 18, Dress like a Teacher day: Christmas Party in the afternoon (Christmas activities) and a school movie in the gym. December 21 to Jan 1: Christmas Holidays January 4, 2016: First day back to school January 8, 2016: 1:50 pm Extreme Assembly January 15, 2016: Pajama Day Happy Holidays to everyone! A Note about what IREC will be doing to support the community this Christmas.
It’s a giving time of year and students and staff at Iron Ridge Elementary Campus are ready and willing to participate in supporting the Blackfalds Christmas Bureau and Blackfalds Food Bank. Each class from ECS to Grade 4 will accept donations (loonies and toonies) from their students. These donations will be made instead of classroom gift exchanges on the last day of school before Christmas. To support the Blackfalds Christmas Bureau, IREC would like your contributions by Monday, December 7th. We do see that donations are used to make Christmas better for children, families, and seniors in the Blackfalds community. Bonus: For every $1.00 donated by a student they will receive a ticket and be entered into a raffle for prime front- row seating for the Christmas concerts. An ECS Family on December 8th, and a Grade One Family on December 9th. On December 10th a Grade Three Family at the 6 p.m. concert and a Grade Four Family at the 7:30p.m. concert; and a Grade Two Family on Dec. 11th (maximum of 6 seats per family). As well, IREC will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Blackfalds Food Bank. Collection bins will be available to drop off your donated items at the main doors at IREC for each Christmas concert. This is a great activity for students as they help to make Christmas more enjoyable for someone less fortunate while they in turn learn how to be good citizens of the world. When we synergize and work together we can do great things. MERRY CHRISTMAS! We have had a busy week in 2W. On Monday we had a brand new student join us. We are very excited to add one more superhero to our class. Additionally Miss Kara is joining us everyday now during period 5! Students in 2W have had fun exploring and racing liquids during science. We are almost done our Liquids unit and are already looking forward to starting our Buoyancy unit. We have enjoyed exploring our three communities using "My Maps" on our Chrome books and students are almost finished their poster on the community that they chose. Our pattern stories are finished!!! 2W is anxiously awaiting the day when they can take a copy home (I just need to finish marking them and make the copies). Our next big writing project is going to an amazing Bat Report. After friendly competition this week while we raced to see which table could write the most addition sentences, we have begun creating repeating patterns. Students had to create their own pattern. Then they figured out the core of a partners pattern and extended it. We will begin working on increasing patterns this next week. Reminder: Tuesday morning 9 AM we will be performing our poem and showing the Video we made with 2T!!!!
Congratulations to Eli, Vayden and Croston this week who got Leadership Awards in 2W!!!!

We just started book writing units where students are learning what it takes to become an author. A copy of the student's books will go into circulation in our school library so the students are extremely excited about this authentic learning activity.
